RIOT SOUNDSCAPE

Made on Adobe Audition. The soundscape is comprised of various sound files. Some sound effects play continuously, while others play occasionally. I modified the occasional sound effects by extending the audio blend. This allows audio elements to gradually amplify to full volume. This allows for better realism; sounds that begin and finish playing abruptly sound quite unrealistic.

RADIO ADVERTISEMENT ANALYSIS

What is the advert for?

The advertisement informs viewers of what to do if they are ever on suspicion of a potential terrorist.

What is the main message of the advert?

If one is suspicious of a person or persons who may be intending to terrorize, they should not dismiss it, but rather, take immediate action to avert a potential act of terrorism by calling the police.

What different types of audio clips (Sound effects, music, etc) have been used and why?

At the beginning of the advertisement, intense music begins playing. This is to alert the audience and attract their attention.

Additional sound effects were used to build up suspense.  Such sounds include a phone ringing, a police raid, an oncoming steam train, gunfire, and men exclaiming in Urdu (implying that the terrorists are Southern Asians).

Are different voices used in the ad and why?

Several voices are used to indicate that more than one people are involved. This is to perhaps suggest the seriousness of the situation.

In which location/s or situation/s is the advert set and why?

It is set in the United Kingdom. The exact location in the United Kingdom is not known.

The situation is with regards to preventing a terrorist attack. A group of Southern Asian terrorists have nearly a tonne of fertilizer at their disposal, which they plan on using to build a fertilizer bomb. This is reported to the police. Police units are dispatched to the location and successfully manage to intervene and avert the crisis.

It exposes the significance of a minor suspicion of a potential terrorist. If that person never reported to the police, the collateral damage would have likely been catastrophic.

Who do you think the target audience is for this advertisement?

I don’t believe the advertisement to be for a specific audience; it applies to practically everyone.

Why would it appeal to the audience?

It brings the audience into a state of suspense and awareness of the ever-present threat of a terrorist attack.

What do you think about the advertisement?

It is intriguing and informative because of how the advertisement expresses the urgency of halting a terrorism plan. It uses music and various sound effects that evoke feelings of tension and desperation.

AUDIO RECORDING TEST

NARRATIVE RECORDING

Quoted Narration (Draft #4):

"Trekking and hiking have never been easier. STING shoes are specially designed to overcome anything nature throws at you. Steep inclines? No problem! Muddy patches? STING shoes say no to mud! Interested? What are you waiting for? Buy now for just £45.00!"

Evaluation

The advertisement informs viewers of the groundbreaking footwear technology. The price included is £45.00. A fairly low price is set in an attempt to attract the targeted audience. The quality of the sound was clear and no background noises were captured. The dialogue is clear and fluent. No soundtracks or sound effects were added. I believed additional sounds were not needed. The recording duration is roughly six seconds and doesn't require any additional sounds. The narration is a voiceover of an American male voice. An audio recorder was used for the recording of the audio. The recording took place in a room with insulant material on the walls to diminish the decibel amount of any outside sounds. A USB was used to store and transfer the audio recordings to a computer. The audio files were then imported from the USB hard drive into an audio modifying software called Adobe Premier Pro where any unwanted sounds in the recording were removed. A motionless image was used for the thumbnail. It was then uploaded onto YouTube. Much of the development progressed well. However, uploading the recording onto YouTube was a struggle. I watched a tutorial explaining the uploading process. After watching, I managed to successfully upload the recording onto YouTube. I now know how to upload material onto YouTube because of this experience. The audio was modified successfully to my liking. My acquaintance with Premier Pro allowed me to modify the recordings without struggle. I need to learn how to operate the audio recorder without expert assistance. I might take time out to familiarize myself with the recorder. I was not influenced by other adverts. No experimentation was done to the recordings.
